The Pacific Rim Fisheries Program reports on current events in the fisheries arena of major fishing nations of the Pacific. The timely information provided by the Program includes current market and trade activities, management and use of country specific fisheries, and cooperative efforts among these countries in the long term sustainable use of the North Pacific fisheries resource.

The strength of the Program and the uniqueness of the services it provides comes from its long established network of working relationships with member countries of the North Pacific Rim Fisheries Conference series. This informal organization consists of six founding member countries, four observer countries and three international fisheries organizations. The conference, held biannually since 1989, was established to promote the exchange of information to the mutual benefit of all pacific Rim nations. Knowledge of changes in the management and use of a country’s fishery, regulatory and business practices, foreign investment, and other market related changes lead toward better management decisions for all fisheries government and business sectors of these nations.

Representatives of the People’s Republic of China, Republic of Korea, Russia and the United States collectively contribute catch statistics and other relevant fisheries information that are posted on the Program’s fisheries statistics page. This site is a cooperative project between these countries and maintained by the Pacific Rim Fisheries Program. The Program disseminates the information collected through its various publications, international fisheries conferences and its fisheries statistics web page.
